Looking for a futuristic fix for your next vehicle? You could plop down $110k for an Audi R8, but then isn’t the future supposed to be about building a greener planet? Yeah leave the R8 for me, instead, have a look at the Aptera.

The Aptera is as futuristic a car as you can get in today’s market. Slated for release at the end of 2008, the Aptera was designed from the ground up as an electric vehicle, and later as an extended range electric vehicle. Of course, the first question I had is how fast is it? Well according to their website:

At this time we are not able to post hard numbers on performance, although top speed for the production model will exceed 85 mph, going from 0-60 in under 10 seconds.

In comparison to other hybrid/electric vehicles, that ain’t half bad.

The second question I had was how much:

The approximate price for the all electric version is $26,900 and the plug-in hybrid $29,900. These prices are subject to change any time before we begin production.

Not too shabby considering the future appeal. Of course, my money’s still in the bank as I hold out for the R8.

For more information, check out their site.

I’ve over looked the Lotus as a sports car, performance car, and especially an exotic car. After all, it’s incredibly small, has a small engine, can tend to look like more like a bug (aka lotus) than a vehicle, and the list goes on. This all changed the moment when I got my eyes on the Exige and Lotus’ newest versions of this mini beast.

The car features the following specs (As taken from Wikipedia):

Engine:

Toyota Supplied, 1796 cc I-4, DOHC with VVTL-i (variable valve timing with lift intelligence), supercharged and intercooled
Bore/Stroke 82 mm/85 mm
218 hp (162.5 kW) @ 7800 rpm
185.6 ft·lbf (215 N·m) @ 5500 rpm
Compression ratio: 11.5:1

Transmission: 6-Speed, Close Ratio with Single-Plate Dry Clutch

Weight: 2057 lb (935 kg)

Exige S Performance:

0-62 (0-100 km/h): 4.1 seconds
0-100 mph (0-161 km/h): 9.98 seconds
Top speed: 148 mph (238 km/h)
Fuel consumption: 24 mpg–imp (11.77 L/100 km / 20 mpg–U.S.) city / 29 mpg–imp (9.74 L/100 km / 24.1 mpg–U.S.) highway

What gets me is both the 0 – 60 time AND the quarter-mile time. 4.1 seconds! wow, I am at a loss for words. Just enjoy the pics and some day I’ll enjoy this ride.

Well you’ll all know soon enough, but rest assured, this will be an update for the masses and I intend to market it to the best of my ability. That said, enjoy some beautiful pictures from Ralph Lauren’s car collection. I went to one of his shows a few years ago and I never got a chance to post these. Enjoy!! :turtle:

One of the greatest things I found out about living in San Franciso, specifically my neighborhood, is that I get constant exposure to some great exotic cars. Some of you may not be as fortunate as I am in terms of accessibility to these vehicles so I’m going to share a few of my personal photos.

The first set of pictures were taken at an old fashioned car show that was sponsored by Audi here in San Francisco. They debuted these vehicle, dubbed the R8, which has since been named car of the year by countless auto magazines and editors alike.

The second set of pictures were taken while walking home from our neighborhood movie theater. There is a sports car dealership a block away from our place, and nothing gets more attention than this beauty. It is a 2006 Spyker Spider. I’ll be happy to take more pictures of this one for any of my readers with special requests? :shroom:
