One of the most interesting concepts to me as a web designer looking forward is the idea that I may soon be able to carry my entire life in a single, cost effective, hand held device. Now by life I am referring to my digital life, and by hand held device I am referring to whatever phone I happen to own at that time. Mobile phones have made huge strides in their capacity, technology, and their abilities. My dreams may be somewhat far off, but taking your website on the road, well that time is already here.
One of my favorite online haunts is a little joint called Sitepoint. I love their site because they offer up fresh advice on all things fun and technical, sound familiar? In any event, one of the sitepoint authors just published a post titled Designing for the Mobile Web. I recommend this article for anyone who is seeking to make a mark for themselves in the world of mobile web design. It has some great pointers on why we want to great xhtml markup, how to provide said markup, and where else to find information on creating great mobile markup. The article is great in so many ways and I could write an entire article paying homage to it and the sitepoint guys, but instead I would simply tell you, the reader to go check it out.
Is that all?
So your hungry for me? I figured you would be, check out this old pdf found at W3C. It looks like a sales pitch for the mobile web and it’s dated 2006. How fast we do grow…
Remember to check out O’Reilly’s for more great information on the mobile web. Their books are a testament to a new era. Don’t miss out!
