What is Web 2.0, really?

March 16th, 2008 · No Comments

You ever sit down and wonder, what is web 2.0? No really, what is it. How do you define it, what does it look like, and who makes it? Read on and I’ll show you how you can step into it head first and arms open.

To put it simply, Web 2.0 is a catch - phrase. It was devised by marketers to put relevance to the new era of the web. Although the idea is beginning to fade and ideas of Web 3.0 are popping up left and right now, the idea behind this phenomenon is still extremely relevant if you are hoping to make strides online. I’ve been perusing the internet trying to find out how to best capture the look and feel of the term and this era. What I came up with is a list of great design sites, icons to give your site flair, and some of the awards that make the web 2.0 stay prevalent.

Design

Here is a list of websites that will help you in your conquest of web 2.0 design:

9rules - www.9rules.com
alistapart - www.alistapart.com
sitepoint - www.sitepoint.com
Web Design From Scratch - www.webdesignfromscratch.com/basics.cfm

Now if your looking for ideas, or need to flush out your own ideas a little bit more, take a look at how web 2.0 designers are doing it.

The Deck - www.coudal.com/deck
SimpleBits - www.simplebits.com
Pearsonified - www.pearsonified.com

Need a few icons to spice things up?

IconBuffet - www.iconbuffet.com
IconFactory - www.iconfactory.com

Finally, we have the awards that tell us what is and what isn’t.

SEOMOZ Awards - www.seomoz.org/web2.0
Webware - www.webware.com
Webby Awards - www.webbyawards.com

And that does it folks. Have a blast in the new, soon to be old, web 2.0.  :megaman:
