Out with the old, In with the new

January 20th, 2008 · No Comments

The unthinkable happened two days ago. My main computer’s motherboard gave out. Now lucky for me I have a backup laptop (which I am currently writing this post with), a backup computer, and of course, my girlfriend’s laptop  . That said, I still keep my most valuable information on my main computer, so I couldn’t afford to have it down for too long.

Lucky for me, Newegg had a slew of great deals on the latest and greatest motherboards. Unfortunate for me, however, was the fact that I was running a Pentium 4 HT processor and as a Compusa rep was so gracious to point out to me, that chip is now considered, soooo 4 years ago. This left me in a strange place. I needed to replace my main computer and I needed to do it fast. Well the choice was clear, I would have to upgrade my cpu along with my motherboard. Of course, something else that was on the old side of things was my video card. I was using an ATI Radeon x1600 Pro video card (agp edition). With agp becoming all but phased out on newer motherboards I didn’t want to keep my video in the stone age either. So I had to ante up for a new pci express video card.

When it was all said and done, I ended up spending over $500 to get just the right mix of parts for my child computer. This baby will now be sporting an Intel Core 2 Duo Conroe (E6750), Gigabyte GA-P35 mobo, EVGA GeForce 7600GT video card, Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, and G.Skill 2GB Memory Kit. Ohhh they grow up so fast. :borg:
